"Steel Like Her" Electronic Cable on Canvas by Patience Adekunle.
Orange ground, hair worked into four heavy coils that sit proud of the canvas. A charging lead runs the length of the cheek; a panel of blue thread breaks at the shoulder. Hard material, soft expression — the tension Adekunle keeps returning to.
Patience Adekunle builds portraits entirely from recycled electronic cable. Stripped, cut and laid piece by piece, discarded charging leads and electrical wire become skin, braid and gaze — portraiture with a near-sculptural relief, and an argument about waste built into its surface.
