The work of Toyin Omolowo of Nigeria depicts a ubiquity of textiles in African life providing a subtext for much contemporary artwork being produced by Africans on the continent and beyond it. One of his work was among 100 pieces, selected from 8,000 entries by 3,000 artists, in a 2005 exhibition at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Arts in Kobe, Japan. Omolowo has worked with various painting media as well as graphics and metal sculpture since completing studies at the Yaba College of Technology in 1990.
