The work of Toyin Omolowo B.64 of Nigeria depicts a ubiquity of textiles in African life providing a subtext for much contemporary artwork being produced by Africans on the continent and beyond it. One of his work was among 100 pieces, selected from 8,000 entries by 3,000 artists, in a 2005 exhibition at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Arts in Kobe, Japan. Omolowo has worked with various painting media as well as graphics and metal sculpture since completing studies at the Yaba College of Technology in 1990. Most recently, Omolowo's interest has centered on exploring the abstract design potential in symbolic motifs from significant civilizations of the past. He combines geometric and linear elements in different materials, including cardboard, acrylic paint, resin, twine, and wax, to celebrate the Yoruba culture. His work is considered suitable for modern-day interiors as the designs expresses elements of design namely, color, balance, rhythm, and harmony.
