The most recognised work of African art — the ivory pendant mask of Queen Mother Idia, commissioned by her son Oba Esigie in the early 16th century. This illustration captures the interlocking mudfish figures that crown the headdress, the delicate iron-inlay scarification marks across the forehead, and the five tiers of coral beading that form the iconic choker. Idia was a warrior queen who helped her son secure the throne, and her image has become a symbol of African heritage worldwide. Printed and handmade in London. Part of the Bibianna Benin Kingdom Collection.
