Stanley Ugonabo is a Lagos-based Nigerian artist whose work seamlessly blends realism and surrealism to create thought-provoking visual narratives. A graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he was awarded the Chime Die Prize for Creative Excellence in Visual Arts in 2019.
Currently working with watercolor and oil paint, Ugonabo skillfully manipulates human anatomy to tell compelling stories filled with energy and empathy. His art delves into the psychological and emotional effects of social phenomena, using visual metaphors to construct narratives that reflect personal and collective experiences. In many of his pieces, he experiments with distorted human figures and unique color palettes to evoke mood and emotion, resulting in a body of work that is both mystifying and deeply evocative.
Since 2019, Ugonabo has participated in numerous exhibitions, making a strong impact in the contemporary art scene. His maiden solo exhibition, "Dreams," debuted in 2021, showcasing his ability to blend artistic mastery with storytelling. That same year, he was honored with the "Most Promising Artist" award at LIMCAF 2021, further cementing his reputation as a rising star in Nigerian contemporary art.
